I just got some cute pictures from Cynthia, who is fostering big gentle boy Snuffles (Baileys Dream). I have a soft spot for Snuffles as he reminds me of my Louie :-)
I have met Snuffles' trainer at Wanganui track a few times - she is lovely, adores Snuffles who has been with her all his life till now. :-) Lets hope he will find a loving home he deserves!

His foster carer Cynthia writes:
Snuffles has been with us for a week now and as you can see has made himself right at home. He is a very sweet polite boy, but always ready for a game with his toys by himself or with you. He is lovely to take for a walk, loves meeting all the other dogs on the river and having a chat, has really good lead manners and doesn't pull. He also enjoys greeting visitors to the house and likes to meet children. He was very good at the dog show meeting and greeting especially as we had only picked him up from the Sanson kennels that morning!

We had fantastic three days at the National Dog Show in Feilding : our cute little town was buzzing with all the people and show dogs - there were many events organized in town square too :-)
But, of course, the biggest one for us was our GAP Marquee at Manfield Center, where the National Dog Show was held.

Gail and her lovely family did a fantastic job with the GAP marquee and the shop (again!). Gail is truly a superwoman - she deserves her own blog post!

We had a great turnout too -GAP hounds came from as far as Wellington :-)
 Many people stopped by the GAP marquee, there was plenty of interest in adopting and fostering, so we hope to see more hounds off to forever homes as a result. We were asked to parade in the main ring again today, while the announcer interviewed Michelle about GAP and the hounds. It was wonderful to see our hounds so well behaved in the ring -my two foster gilrs Cilla and Shannon (Moon Dancer) were handled by Gails's kids, whom they have never met before. I LOVE this aspect of greyhound nature, it is so lovely to see a dog handled by a child and behaving perfectly.

And we even lure coursed the hounds! There was a mechanical lure (with two white plastic bags to chase) set up for demos in the field at Manfield. My Louie had a go too and he is still on a high! :-) It was amazing to watch all the retired racers do what they love (most of the GAP hounds there tried it and loved it - Beryl was an absolute champion, check out the picture below:)

Along with being day 2 of the big 3-day National Dog Show, Friday was also Rural Day and the whole town gets in behind the rural theme.  The shops and businesses compete for best dressed rural themed window, there are many displays and competitions and lots of the displays included dogs.  Blue's Mum Odette is a manager of Curves, a woman's fitness and health facility in Feilding, and she included greyhounds in her gym display ; she did a great job with GAP leaflets and promoting GAP, with help from Sue and Beryl, and Judy and Fish. Our latest foster, Shannon (Moon Dancer), arrived only on Saturday and is just gorgeous - she is a tiny blue  girl with the most amazing ears :-) She is not too confident dog and is a bit stressed with all the changes, so we have kept her quiet and gave her lots of space. She is doing well -sleeps through the night, eats well, and is a quick learner! Very responsive girl, eager to please and loves the rules-she is a type of a dog who will bond strongly to her new owner. She is a real sweetheart :-)
She is lovely on a lead too .
We took her to the dog club last night, where she met all sorts of dogs, and she loved them all despite being a bit scared of some of them (especially when she saw this HUGE Alaskan Malamute)! She made great friends with a miniature poodle though-she was her favourite! :)
We took her for her first walk too, with her new friend Snuffles (Baileys Dream)  who is also up for adoption:

Lucy and Cilla have been trying to make Shannon play with them, but it is a bit too much and too soon for her, so  Lucy and Cilla had their own little party:

Update 05/10/2010:

Shannon is just lovely! She started playing with Lucy and Cilla, and Louie (who does not believe in playing!) loves her too. She has fitted beautifully in the pack here -we usually have only one foster greyhound (altogether three greyhounds in the house), but Shannon has been no trouble at all, despite being the fourth. And yes, the house looks a bit like a kennel! :-)

Shannon is lovely in the house, very clean dog, very responsive and polite. Shannon is not suitable for homes with cats, but she has met our cat Mitzi and learned to pretty much leave her alone. She is very trainable and so eager to please! Like all greyhounds, she HATES being told off!

When i let her off the lead in the dog club or velodrome she has a bit of a run with the other three and then when i call her, gallops back to me, with a huge smile on her face! :-)

Lucy, Cilla and her have been having these massive jaw wrestling and tugs of war competitions! :-)
