Snow that fell around New Zealand was exciting for everyone - greyhounds included. Many greyhounds had great fun with it  - below are some of the pictures I got. If you have any nice pictures of your hound in snow, please do send them to me on favdich@yahoo.co.nz

Evie and Cilla

Cilla, one of Lucy's best friends, has been adopted by Liz and Allan from Petone a few weeks ago.
We loved fostering Cilla -she was with us for longer than average as she was waiting for a forever home with another dog. Lucy and Cilla had loads of fun together, and now - Cilla has a new playmate who sounds so much fun!

Liz and Allan sent me some gorgeous pictures and an update (thanks a million guys!):
As promised here are some photos and a few words for you about Cilla and how wonderfully she has settled in with the rest of our family.
Cilla has been with us for only a couple for weeks now and it is already hard to imagine life without her. She quickly bonded with our first dog, a Labrador/Staffordshire cross named Evie. Cilla will follow Evie around all day long and together they have all sorts of adventures in our back yard playing with anything that resembles a toy that Cilla may have “borrowed” from within her reach. Just check her out with Elmo in mid air!

Cilla quickly developed a fascination with our cats too, although one of them was not too interested in her...A sly squirt from a water bottle while Cilla wasn’t watching sorted that out (And provided a humorous moment for the humans :)

Since Cilla’s arrival Evie has become a much calmer dog, she has really taken to the new pack structure and understands that we require nothing more from her other than to be a happy dog. She looks after Cilla while we look after them both. It makes us both so happy to see the two of them gallivanting about having fun and bonding more and more each day!
Thank you so much Greyhounds As Pets, we never imagined that Cilla would settle in so quickly or so well.

Cilla, our gorgeous black brindle foster girl, loves other dogs, and is currently waiting for her ideal home: a home with another dog for company.

 She loves Louie and Lucy, and Beryl, however she is absolutely 'obsessed' with Frankie! She thinks Frankie is the coolest thing she has EVER seen, and can follow him for ages. The latest thing is fetching sticks out of the river - she LOVES chasing Frankie (who chases the stick) and 'helping' him retrieve it.

Sue, Frankie's and Beryl's Mum, took some photos yesterday - and I have promptly stolen them!

GAP at National Dog Show in Feilding

We had fantastic three days at the National Dog Show in Feilding : our cute little town was buzzing with all the people and show dogs - there were many events organized in town square too :-)
But, of course, the biggest one for us was our GAP Marquee at Manfield Center, where the National Dog Show was held.

Gail and her lovely family did a fantastic job with the GAP marquee and the shop (again!). Gail is truly a superwoman - she deserves her own blog post!

We had a great turnout too -GAP hounds came from as far as Wellington :-)
 Many people stopped by the GAP marquee, there was plenty of interest in adopting and fostering, so we hope to see more hounds off to forever homes as a result. We were asked to parade in the main ring again today, while the announcer interviewed Michelle about GAP and the hounds. It was wonderful to see our hounds so well behaved in the ring -my two foster gilrs Cilla and Shannon (Moon Dancer) were handled by Gails's kids, whom they have never met before. I LOVE this aspect of greyhound nature, it is so lovely to see a dog handled by a child and behaving perfectly.

Oh yes, that was a nice shortcut !

And we even lure coursed the hounds! There was a mechanical lure (with two white plastic bags to chase) set up for demos in the field at Manfield. My Louie had a go too and he is still on a high! :-) It was amazing to watch all the retired racers do what they love (most of the GAP hounds there tried it and loved it - Beryl was an absolute champion, check out the picture below:)

Back home , Lucy the Ferret was absolutely exhausted and spent most of the evening in this position:

Along with being day 2 of the big 3-day National Dog Show, Friday was also Rural Day and the whole town gets in behind the rural theme.  The shops and businesses compete for best dressed rural themed window, there are many displays and competitions and lots of the displays included dogs.  Blue's Mum Odette is a manager of Curves, a woman's fitness and health facility in Feilding, and she included greyhounds in her gym display ; she did a great job with GAP leaflets and promoting GAP, with help from Sue and Beryl, and Judy and Fish.
