I received a number of gorgeous pictures of greyhounds at Christmas  - have to share them here, they are all so cute!

Bonnie (Iteru Kefa) and her new family in Auckland

Melissa and her family (from Auckland) applied to foster GAP greyhounds and on Thursday 29 April this year, they got their first one: a small female greyhound Bonnie (Iteru Kefa).
Three days later Melissa had fallen in love with her and could not stand the thought of her leaving (this might sound familiar to many of us 'failed' foster carers ! :-)
Melissa and family officially adopted Bonnie the following Monday.
Melissa says:
Bonnie is such a lovely girl and she has settled beautifully into her pet life and new home. She is very much a routine girl (which fits in well here, as so are we)! At night time she stands on her duvet cover and enjoys me dragging her to our bedroom, which is where she is sleeping so well throughout the night. She happily waits on her duvet in the morning until my husband and I are ready to get up or until we call her to us. She is even more gorgeous in the morning, so happy to say 'morning' as she licks us.
She seems to love my husband Tony and son Samuel, but me being Mum I seem to be the favourite, I get followed round the house all day and am loving the company of our new darling.
She loves to sprint in the back section doing about 6 laps at a time then runs inside and lies on her bed again!
Bonnie has enjoyed a cafe in Ponsonby and going to soccer on Saturday mornings, and regular walkies, all the new things around her don't seem to bother her, she is interested to take it all in.
We are so grateful we have adopted such a sweet Greyhound and am sure she is going to give us years of special times and memories :). Thanks Irene and Sonja!












Bonnie has also gone for a playdate with Brodie (Top Deal) and his family :-)

GAP at The 50 + lifestyle Expo, ASB Showgrounds, Auckland

Lynda Sharp did a great job of organizing the GAP stand at the "50+ Lifestyle Expo" in Auckland (October 2009), and also was so kind to send me some great photos she took. (Thanks Lynda!)
The public were so interested and very keen, and apparently the GAP stand looked just amazing! (check out the potato sacks!!). Louie and me are so sorry we could not be there!

Our amazing GAP owners did a great job during the 3 day event: Lynda with Ivan and Pauli, Lance and Sharon with Rosie, Jonathan and Dallas with Frank, Mojca and Uros with Oscar and Rosie, Helen with her perfectly matching hounds Cruzer and Enzo, Heather and Sinead with Brodie, Christine with Maddox, Michelle with Barney (I apologize if I left anyone out)..Special mention I think has to go to our ‘senior’ GAP owners: Oriel (with Penny), Jean (with Bella) and Mary (with Teddy) - these ladies were amazing , rattled buckets and spoke non-stop!

Lots of people said they were impressed with how quiet and relaxed the hounds were, and how well behaved they were. Some said they'd never seen a 'real' greyhound before, only the racing on the TV.
It was a great opportunity to show of our gorgeous hounds, and no doubt it will result in some adoption applications!

Sinead's Mum Heather says:

About 18 months ago some friends/neighbours invited us to a "Family Day" at the greyhound racing track at Manukau. Well done to the organisers - it was a great event!
My daughter,(who is now 17) was curious as to what happened to the dogs after they finished racing. She tracked down the GAP website. Damn the web!!! :-)

She pestered us to let her adopt a dog. No way we said! We already have two Aussie Shepherds and a variety of other critters, including 2 cats.
I owned a Border Collie & Sheltie prior to my two current dogs, done heaps of obedience & agility and I told Sinead, "I don't do hounds". Hah!

Worst thing we said though was, "anyway you don't have the adoption fee". She put together a fund raising prospectus, received several contributions from friends & family, sold heaps of items, clothes etc on Trade Me and came up with the money in no time.We finally gave in.

Sinead had unexpectedly been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes a couple of years earlier. Anyone that is familiar with this disease in young people knows how hideous it is. Constantly pricking your finger to test your blood sugars, injecting yourself and feeling like crap.Brodie has been a god send. Sinead now has a reason to get out of bed when she's feeling flat, he keeps her fit and he's been a great shoulder for her to cry on, literally.I often find her having a real heart to heart with him, brings tears to my eyes.He has been a dream to welcome into our house. I now "Do Hounds" Lol.
Our youngest daughter Nicola, 14, has just pushed the boundaries also and saved up (well mostly) and purchased a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Now I "Do Terriers" as well, well one of them.Thanks to the kids we have 4 dogs in our house, Brodie and the Staffy are joined at the hip, they play like best buddies and have us in stitches. Slight difference in size as you can imagine.If I seem vague on the next walk it's because our once organised quiet household has become a flipping circus! Lol.I even bought lots of Berocca today.I just hope if the kids ever go flatting I get to keep their dogs, Brodie is very special and such a good hound.
