Jazz (Homebush Squirt)

Sammy Stone sent me a very special post today - below :)

Today is a very special day for our family. Exactly 2 years ago today, our very first greyhound joined the family. Boy does time go fast. It seems like shuch a short time ago Liz and her greyhound Bull had us seated in our lounge fillng out the GAP questionare sheet. I can remember looking at the GAP website prior to this and had seen a hound that i fell in love with, and after 3 weeks of waiting, we got the call to say that Jazz (she was called Squirt at the time) was the dog that had been matched to us. Her racing name was 'Homebush Squirt' :)

When the day finally came for us to pick up Jazz, I was so excited. I remember making up her bed in the corner of the Dining room that morning before we set off on our 2-3hour drive to pick up the newest member of our family. It was a very excting moment when the lovely ladies (Sonja and Irene) at GAP brought out our new little girl.

I dont know where i would be without Jazz, she has brought me into a community of amazing, greyhound loving people. Thank you to everyone GAP !!!

P.S. Jazz had now been joined by her litter brother Leo (Our Cheetah), and her best friend Jade, who both have also been matched to us by GAP :-)

We had over 20 greyhounds at the walk at Ashhurst Domain today, and they had loads of fun! :-)

Sammy just sent me some gorgeous pictures of her hounds Jazz (Homebush Squirt) and Leo (Our Cheetah).
Yes, they look very similar -they are littermates! :-)

Sammy's Nanna Glynis adopted Jazz almost 2 years ago, and has also fostered GAP greyhounds since. When she heard that Jazz's litter brother was in GAP (in March this year) - she adopted him straight away too.
Leo's story was particularly sad as GAP rescued him from awful conditions in Te Awamutu SPCA; he needed lots of TLC - he looks so great now, it is hard to believe that this is the hound who was so emaciated and in such a terrible condition only 3-4months ago.

I love their coloring -they are blue brindle, and quite a striking pair! Sammy takes both of them to dog classes and plans to do Canine Good Citizens training with Leo too! :-)

Samantha's foster greyhound Lynn (Shining Comet)

Just got few cute pictures from Samantha, whose family is currently fostering Lynn (Shining Comet). Samantha wrote:
Lynn has been with us for just over 2 weeks, she is 8 years old, friendly, quiet , and like all greyhounds, loves to sleep :) She loves cuddles too.

She likes to play with other dogs, enjoys going on walks (gets very excited when you say 'walkies!'), and she LOVES to run!
The other day we organized to take Jazz (Homebush Squirt) and Lynn up to the dog run area (fully fenced) and meet Huggie (Stylish Huggie) and Bud (Heeza Addis) there. Lynn had great fun chasing Huggie and his ball up and down the park with the other dogs.

In the house, Lynn is very well behaved, sleeps through the night, stays off the furniture and knows the boundaries. Always had great toileting with Lynn - no accidents at all. She loves the mattress/dog bed in the lounge between the fire and TV and as you can see from the photo she is happy to share it. :-)

Robyn kindly invited all the Gappers for a run in her paddock in Otaki - we had 20-ish doggies there and they had a hell of a run (which, predictably, lasted for 5 minutes :-))) Sorry for the lack of action pics - by the time i got my camera out the gallop was pretty much over!
Thw weather was lovely and the dogs just loved it!
Maxi The Taxi did not feel like participating in the group picture - he wanted his own one :-) :
