Update from our foster boy Snapper (Hagler)

Snapper's Mum Lori just sent us an update and some pictures. Snapper went to live with Lori and family in Auckland in February this year.

Lori wrote:
Snapper has settled in very well. He comes to work with us every day after he has dropped Madeline at the bus stop and then Fletcher at school. Travels well in the car and is a constant companion to me. He gets lots of attention up at school from the kids, which he quite likes until they get unruly. He tolerates my daughter draping him in fabric and making him do weird and wonderful girlie things. I have only just saved him from having his nails painted red! :)

He has mastered stairs – even the big scary 4 flight narrow dark ones we have to get to work. After about 3 weeks he started to get a bit cheeky -even though he knows he isn’t allowed on the sofa we find the tell tale hairy signs that he sneaks up there at night! Doesn’t even try it during the day!
Found out he has a fetish for Feijoas – these are the only things he will retrieve – all other balls ignored! He even picks them off the tree and brings them to us. 
Crowds freak him out (which was a surprise as we would have thought there was lots of people and noise at the races). We did a 5 week obedience class and he passed with flying colours (although just with a down not a sit) – they loved having him as he is so easy to train and discipline (although the sofa might say otherwise).

He goes to the beach a couple of times a week and loves running and a bit of jumping in the water. We are really lucky that we have a dog park/beach about 10 minutes up the road so we can go any time of day to take him there.

He loves meeting all the other dogs in the area. We did bump in to Pepper (Pepperonni) but she gave him the cold shoulder! We see Shiloh (New Thing Now) a couple of times a week and they are getting used to each other.

In the photo above you can see that Snapper will go to any lengths to get you to scratch just in the right place! And still find time to look at the camera. He is very photogenic!
We are so glad to have him as part of our family. He makes us laugh so much and gives us so much pleasure.

 On Saturday we took the greyhounds to the St Peters Church Fair in Palmerston North, where they were a huge hit (more on this in my next post!).

Mitch (Frito Bandito) and 10yr old Emma made great friends, and had great time playing in the church back yard :) I have to share the cute pictures :) (you can click on pictures to see full size)
Mitch, who has retired recently and is looking for forever home, is just the cutest! He was a big hit at the fair, making friends with everybody :) He just adores kids and loves to play :)

Handsome boy

Every time I go to GAP kennels in Sanson (and I go there often!), I always ask Sonja and Irene to see new greyhounds who have just arrived to GAP.  Despite being always so busy, Sonja and Irene somehow always manage to 'take a break' and take me into the kennels and show me the new doggies.

Well, myself and obviously Sonja and Irene have seen many gorgeous greyhounds, but our jaws literally dropped when we saw Red (Classy Fort).  This dog is just SO good looking : he is warm red color, with a little white blaze on his chest. He is TALL - I always thought my Louie was very tall, but Red is even taller! Red raced at 33kg, so he is a big greyhound, tall, lanky boy, with AMAZING body, and in amazing condition (he raced until recently, so he is all muscled up and looking awesome!). 

You would think Red would be aloof and quite self-absorbed, what with beeing so good looking? But no -he is the waggiest, soppiest , the most affectionate doggie :) He does not wag his tail -he wags his entire back end :)
Red, apart from being so gorgeous, was also a good racing dog (he comes from the Schofield kennels, from Pam and Denis, who have bred and raced my Louie :) He had 61 starts and did great!

Whoever adopts this gorgeous boy should really think about doing some ad work, TV, and similar work with him -it would be awesome promotion for greyhounds. If you yourself have a handsome hound -do check out 'A Grade Animals' agency.

Handsome Muko (Psychotic) is in foster care with 10 yr old girl Breezey (Serea Deluxe) and her family in Wellington. His foster Mum Sarah sent us some pictures of Muko and Breezey (thanks a million Sarah!).

Muko is waiting for his forever home and seems to be having lots of fun with Breezey in the meantime! :)

Pearl (Thrilling Pearl)  is a gorgeous little fawn lady, so affectionate and so cute! And up for adoption :)
She is 7 years old, but in great health and looking lovely. She was a good racing dog, and also had puppies; now she is looking forward to retirement!
She is currently in foster care with Arie, while waiting for that special home. Sonja took some pictures of her today :)

Update from Joe (Value Pack)

Tessa and Joe

We just got some cute pictures from Joe (Value Pack) who has been living with Tessa and family in Hawkes Bay since February this year.

Tessa says:
Joe settled in to his new home with ease, although he did get a bit of a rude introduction to our cat Scardy, who put Joe in his place straight away!! Joe and Scardy often sit of opposite sides of the room looking at one another, I would love to know what they are thinking. :)
Joe has some next door dog friends, a deaf German shepherd called Milly, a fox terrier called Poppy and a blue healer called Scruff- they all get on really well, its quite entertaining as it almost looks like a Hairy McClarirey story when they are all together.

Joe and I go walking most mornings out on the farm, he loves going out there as he gets to have a good hoon around, then he is quite happy to sleep the rest of the day while I am at work. My husband Sam works away a lot so Joe has become my number one pal. He is the best dog and I love him heaps.

I also found this picture below:   Joe on the podium, posing after one of his many wins during his racing career. Joe was a very good racer, and it is so wonderful to see him enjoying his retirement :)

Update from foster care: Jax (Kentucky) and Rusty (National Class)

Cute Jax (Kentucky) is being fostered by Rebecca and Andy in Christchurch, who just sent us and update and some pictures of their lovely foster boy:

Jax is fitting into our household very well, maybe too well! I think were in love :). He is one amazing boy! He will make someone very lucky for sure. He just loves cuddles which suits us down to the ground:)

Another gorgeous boy, Rusty (National Class) is also in foster care, with Claire and family.
Claire says that Rusty is a beautiful red brindle boy, who wags his tail like a helicopter. Any family would be lucky to have him :)
