Star (Know Wonder) is currently in foster care in Christchurch. Her foster parents have just sent us a few pictures and wrote:
Star has has settled into our house very easily :). She is very pretty, petite and playful and gets on really well with our hound Ben. Her coat is super soft and jet black with a white chest and four white paws. She has amazing perky ears which shoot up whenever she finds something interesting.
Star is a very ladylike eater - never rushing a meal or making a mess! :)

Star is also ultra laid back greyhound and even the aftershocks yesterday didn't worry her at all!
She loves the children and will rest her head on their knees hoping for a cuddle.  :)

Smiling :)

Ashley Bradshaw, a very successful young Canterbury greyhound trainer, used to work with Star and her littermates while at  Gary Cleeve kennels. She sent me some BEAUTIFUL pictures of Star as  a puppy! :) Check them out:

Meet Tommy (Go To Crow)

I meet cute Tommy (Go To Crow) a couple of days ago in GAP Sanson kennels and took a few pictures for the blog.
As soon as he was let out of his kennel -Tommy was VERY excited! He ran to the carpark, towards the GAP van and my big car at full speed, jumping up in the air - this obsession with vans and big cars is quite common in racing greyhounds. When they see a car that size, they think that they might be going to the races -and many of them try anything to get themselves INTO the promissing-looking car :)
Here is Tommy approximately one millisecond after he spotted the GAP van:

That van is looking very promissing -wohoo!!! Off to the races we go!
.
Awesome! There is Angel (Lyndour Gem) already in, now if I could just get myself inside too...
.
Ok, the van pens were not opened. BUT I found the next best thing: Fatima's huge car!
The back was open so here we go!
.
I am READY! Lets go!
Come on?! Oh God. Everybody seems to be sitting down and drinking coffee?!
.
Let me check on Angel...Good, she is still there...
.
Ok, now, this is getting ridiculous...
.
Oh well...this bed is comfy....I guess I will have a bit of a sleep while I am waiting...:)
Tommy and myself are off on the roadtrip to Wellington today: he is going to be fostered by Mila (Bronze For Macos) and her parents. Watch this space for updates from the cute boy :)

Update from Coco (Kapai Karena)

Coco and her boys :)
Gorgeous little brindle girl Coco (Kapai Karena) went to live with Keita and Andrew in Manawatu at the beginning of April this year, and Keita just sent us this update:

Coco has settled in nicely to our noisy/busy household : most days she has a very full day - usually up at the crack of dawn , helping my husband  prepare for milking the cows , then back to bed to wait on the rest of us to rise and shine. :)

After breaky she's off to see what our tribe of cats are up to -  usually a few games of cat and mouse (or should I say cat and dog !!! )with our youngest cat George (they will be the best of friends one day :))).
Then it is rest time before being bustled into the car to help me take the boys to school, then back home for our morning walk ( well, actually, a morning run!). Gee our girl can fly across the paddocks!

Then we are maybe off into town to the shops or off to the farm to help get those cows in line - a dog's work is never done! :)

After this we head home after picking the boys up from school, time for dinner and to get those PJ's on before she tucks up in front of the fire. It's early days and we are still learning to live together but I know she knows now that this is her home and will be forever. Thanks again for bringing Coco into our life!

Meet precious Rosie (Wheelchair Brat)

I met little Rosie (Wheelchair Brat) recently at the GAP kennels (well, actually, at the GAP reception, where she hangs out :) and she is just the cutest!
She is 12 years old, but very fit and healthy for her age, not to mention very cuddly and playful :) She loves her toys and often tosses them around the GAP reception!
She is a little princess too, who loves finer things in life and loads of cuddles.
Rosie is ready for her new home and has a foster home lined up in Waikato. As I always say - dont overlook the oldies, they are just precious and very special - and needless to say, they have loads of love to give!
Waikato sounds nice....:)

Update from Carlos (Captain Carlos)

Handsome Carlos (Captain Carlos) recently went to live with Chris and Terry in Palmerston North, and they just sent us this update:

We picked up Carlos from the kennel in Sanson two weeks ago and we have been enjoying him ever since. He has settled in very well and enjoys walks on the lead, romps in the park and snoozes in the corner of the lounge and anywhere else he finds comfortable. He has learned the out-of-bounds areas in the house and garden very quickly and has had very little trouble adapting to his new surroundings. He had an upset tummy for a few days after he joined us, but that soon passed.

We have had dogs in the past, but Carlos is our first greyhound. We have found all the hype is well founded; he is everything we were told greyhounds could be!
Over the last few days we have started to take him a bit further afield on his walks and have found a place where we can safely let him off the lead for a sniff around and a bit of a sprint. He is lovely to watch!
He has discovered the fun of playing in the stream, after the initial surprise! We have taken him on one GAP walk where he enjoyed the company of other greyhounds and it was good to meet other people who know the breed well and could give us tips and hints about keeping him happy and healthy.

I have written about greyhound trainer Ben Craik and his lovely family before, here. This week, Ben has done yet another roadtrip to GAP Sanson, dropping off another four of his recently retired greyhounds.
Sonja has taken pictures of these lovely doggies - all four of them are just gorgeous! :) (you can click on photos to see full size)

Of course, I was SO excited when I heard that amazing racer Ben (Embezzlement)  was amongst them, I was there at the kennels in a flash, wanting to meet this amazing dog! Just look at this face:
Beautiful  Ben (Embezzlement)
His trainer Ben Craik said this about him:
Ben is such a beautiful, quiet, good tempered dog and will make a fabulous pet. Ben was also a good performer winning $51,779 in stakes and qualified for Group 1 Finals Auckland Cup and Sister City where he raced in Brisbane.

I met the lovely boy and he is also the cuddliest , softest , most affectionate doggie :) Not to mention STUNNING looking. As all Craik greyhounds, he is in wonderful condition and so ready for pet home.
Stunning Ben :)

Ben's litter brother Alex (Cool Idol) arrived to GAP at the same time. Alex did awesome on the track too (80 starts and many wins and placing), just like his brother Ben :) Alex is blue with white socks and blaze, and stunning looking too:
Alex (Cool Idol)

Cute Viv (Harajuku Girl) and Brinkley (Expenditure) arrived together with Ben and Alex, and they are both gorgeous:

Beautiful 6yr old girl Cam (Thrilling Cam) has been in GAP for a while...And we so want her to find her  forever home. Yes, she is black, and she is 6 yrs old, but she is also precious, gorgeous , fit and healthy, and has so much love to give.
I know Cam's trainers too -they loved her and were very sad when her retirement day came; they told me Cam was a special dog -that she had a heart a mile wide :)

Sonja took some pictures of Cam today - have a look...and if you are looking for a very gorgeous, social, fun, loving doggie, please do consider Cam :)

Cam is very dog-social; here she is with Gibson The Poodle :)

Meet gorgeous Alex (Know Need)

Beautiful Alex (Know Need) recently arrived to GAP Sanson all the way from Canterbury. He is a big, soft, cuddly 36kg doggie :) He also hums when you scratch his ears -just a gorgeous dog :)

He did awesome in his racing career - 115 starts and over $30K in stakes :) A retirement well deserved :)
Sonja (GAP Kennel Manager and also a very tallented photographer) took these pictures of Alex today -isn't he just so handsome?

Update May 2012:

Alex is in foster care with Jaimee in Wellington, and enjoying it! Here are some of his pictures taken by Jaimee:
